Proposal Turned Wedding

My fiancé was being very resourceful behind my back. I had no idea he was up to this big elaborate plan he had to propose to me. Let me tell you the story.

Michael went to my boss and requested that I get a week off so he could propose to me and told him not to say anything. He bought airline tickets to Spain and made reservations at the Gran Hotel Bali in Benidorm. This is a four star hotel, by the way.

He gave one of my friends the key to our place and she packed a week worth of clothes for me and then took the suitcase to Michael’s work and put it in the trunk of his car. Michael packed away my passport with his things. He then told me that he needed to take a business trip and asked if I would mind driving him to the airport. Of course I agreed. I would do anything for him.

So on Friday evening at 8:00 pm, I took him to the airport. He had a 10:00 flight. We stopped for curb side check-in. He told me to wait a minute while he dropped off the suit cases. I wasn’t even aware he had two suit cases for a three day business trip.

We went to the counter to check in and I then realized that he was on a flight to Spain. I asked, “What are you going to Spain for?” He then replied, “The same thing you’re going to Spain for”. I told him I couldn’t go to Spain. What about my job? He then told me that he had the whole thing worked out with my boss. Wow! He told me not to ask anymore questions and to just enjoy the trip.

He said he would tell me more when we got to the hotel. We boarded the plane, had a cocktail. I said, “Thanks honey for First Class and for everything else even though I don’t know what you have planned”. I then gave him a big kiss, and we tried to get some sleep. It was a long flight to Madrid.

We took some time to shower and relax and he told me to be ready for a 7:30 dinner reservation. I looked through my suit case and realized he bought me a beautiful new dress and sandals for the occasion. We then got ready and went to the restaurant at the hotel.

It had incredible decor and they sat us in a romantic corner. Michael ordered champagne. When it arrived and the server poured two glasses, he pulled a small box out of his pocket and asked, “Jill, you are the only woman who has ever affected my heart the way you do and I love you beyond reason. Would you give me the pleasure of becoming my wife?” I started to cry.

I only knew Michael for six months and I was so surprised that he felt that strongly toward me. I knew I loved him and wanted to marry him, but I never mentioned it. “Yes”, I said. “I love you so much and I’d love to be your wife”. We toasted to our future life and happiness and enjoyed the rest of our wonderful dinner.

The rest of the week was more than I could imagine. Things were always nice around us, but now it had a real purpose. Closeness was developing that stepped us up about six notches on the love scale. We went for boat rides, spent time on the beach and the pool. We went sightseeing around the area and went shopping. We actually found wedding rings that we both fell in love with so we bought them.

It was the best time I ever had. After a couple of days he asked me if I wanted to get married while we were there or if I wanted to put it off for the rest of the family. If I said yes, he had it all set up to happen. I thought it over for a couple of minutes and told him that if we could record it and have a reception at home that I would love to do it now. So we went to a small church called Ermita De San Jose and Father Edwards married us. It was so romantic.

Our proposal week had turned into a honeymoon as well. We decided to go to Madrid for the last few days of our visit. We went to the Plaza Mayor and drank Sangria and visited some of the cave bars. We drove all over the city and had the time of our lives. It was time to go home now.

We got home and broke the news to our parents that we got married. They weren’t too pleased but calmed down when I gave them a video of the service and promised to have a great reception as soon as we could plan it. When we told them how romantic the whole trip was and that we just couldn’t help ourselves they understood. That’s my proposal story turned wedding. Hope you enjoyed hearing about it.

Thanks again,
Jill St. John
