Our Wedding

Chris and I were re-united when he was incarcerated and on work release. He had met my roommate at a jobsite and began calling her. She did everything in her power to keep us from “meeting”. It was like she knew that we were soul mates. I took his annoying collect calls just to yell at him, and at the same time hear his incredibly sexy voice. He continued to call and then had some trouble on work release and was locked back up. In the meantime my roommate had met a guy on a blind date and 2 weeks from the date they met – she married him.

I picked up the collect call from Chris to tell him that she had gotten married and stiffed me on all the household expenses, so it was not necessary for him to call anymore. He and I started talking every day from that moment on. My phone bill was racking up and I just didn’t care. I loved him before I even came face to face with him. We met behind the glass in the visiting room of the detention center. Oh my goodness, how could someone like him possibly be in jail? He was just amazing. I wanted him bad.

Well this went on for a few months and we began discussing marriage. He was supposed to be getting out and going to a program and we knew that we would have benefits if we were married. So he spoke to the Chaplain who told him no marriages in the detention center, he was getting out soon he should just wait. Well Chris didn’t want to wait, so we found a preacher in the Pennysaver. He said he could do it that night, but we thought it would be better to wait just one more day. I had the marriage license already and the Preacher and I showed up for the next visiting day. I was wearing a pair of black pants and a purple top; Chris was wearing his very sexy jail clothes. I believe it was blue pants and top – kind of like scrubs. Half of our ceremony was performed on speakerphone sitting outside in my car while on a collect call from Chris, and the rest was performed behind the glass in the visiting room. We had figured out a way to get married and when the jail found out they were pretty upset. We did not however, have our first kiss until nearly 4 weeks later when we began family counseling.

Chris’s spot was supposed to open up September 15th of 2005 for the program. On September 14th (one day before our next family counseling & contact visit) a violation of probation popped up from another state. He was immediately picked up from the minimum-security detention center and moved to the maximum-security detention center where he was unable to go to his program. Now we find him facing 32 years from a 10-year-old charge in another state. Several thousands of dollars later, the other state gave him a program and he will be home for good in May of 2007. I am completely in love with Chris and my love grows deeper every day. Each day of this separation makes us so much stronger and really gives us the opportunity to appreciate each other that much more. People think that we are crazy, but they have never seen us together. Each moment we are together – the world stops and it is only he and I completely lost in one another. We have the best friendship imaginable, and the type of relationship and respect for one another that people spend their whole lives dreaming about. I know Chris has been my dream and my fantasy my entire life. I am proud to be Mrs. Christopher King.
