Love At First Sight

How my fiancé and I met…..

After graduating from college, I began working as an administrative assistant to get my foot in the door with the State of Rhode Island. Unfortunately, I was the youngest person working there at the time. So needless to say, I didn't have much of a social life. That is until I ran into a friend from college, Kevin, who was working at the Attorney General's Office. The majority of attorneys at the AG's office are just starting out, so Kevin had a social life. Kevin had invited me into that circle. For months I had hung out with him and his friends, even ended up dating one of them.

On October 3, 2003, I had met Kevin and my boyfriend at the time, Tony, out for drinks with some other people. After a few drinks, Kevin said that we had to move on to another bar because his friend Ted was meeting him there. I was not crazy about going, but I decided to go. When I arrived, I sat at one end of the bar because my roommate at the time was meeting me there and I wanted to make sure that we were able to sit together. All of a sudden, as I looked across the bar and my eyes were fixated on the most handsome man that I had ever seen. I couldn't stop staring! This was Ted. Apparently Ted had seen me too. My boyfriend at the time was standing next to him and Ted had said to Tony "you are such a stud.

You have the most beautiful woman in the bar staring at you." After several minutes of staring at him, Ted approached me. He introduced himself and stated that he was going into the cigar lounge and I was welcomed to join him if I wanted to. Of course I jumped at the opportunity. Ted and I talked for hours! It was so natural! We had even discovered that our fathers' are good friends! Ted's sister was there at the time and said that she wanted to leave and asked Ted to go along with her. Ted said that he couldn't because he wanted to stay there with me. Jocelyn reminded Ted that I had a boyfriend, so Ted came over to me and gave me choice. Ted said "it is either him, or me" and I said, "I choose you" We enjoyed the rest of the night together.

We had even planned to go to Boston the following day to try to catch a Red Sox game. Before I left the bar, I called my mother and father and informed them that I had met the man of my dreams. This was truly love at first sight, for both of us.

Before I had said goodnight to him, I had used his cell phone to call my cell phone, that way he would have my number, and I would have his. Well, I had no clue that Ted did not use his phone and just had it for emergencies, so he had no clue how to retrieve my phone number. The next day, Kevin's girlfriend had called me and asked me how the rest of the night went. I told her that I had a blast and Ted was the man that I was going to marry! However, I was really bummed out because we had planned to go to Boston and I had not heard from him. She told me not to call him and wait to hear from him. Well, Saturday came and went and I was going crazy that he did not call me.

I was completely depressed. Sunday the Red Sox were playing as well and a group of my college friends decided to get together and watch the game. Well, after a few drinks, I decided that I was going to call him. It was a good thing that I did! Ted explained that he didn't have my phone number and was really happy that I called! We talked for a bit and I asked him to join me out, but he had family plans and was unable to do so. So, we decided that we would get together on Monday.

It was Monday and I had butterflies. We agreed to meet after work to catch the Sox game at a bar. Ted worked downtown Providence too, which we thought was odd that we had never crossed paths! What a wonderful time we had! We both didn't want the night to end! That week we saw each other every night after work!

I was truly in love with this man the second I met him! On Thursday of that week, after only 3 days of hanging out with one another, Ted asked me to be his girlfriend. Of course I said yes! From there, it was only two weeks before we were telling one another "I love you" and how we are going to spend the rest of our lives together! After 2 years and 5 months together, Ted surprised me with the most gorgeous ring! It has been almost 3 years together and I am still as in love with him as the first day that I met him! He is truly my soul mate!
