Jumping off a plane

This story is not the craziest thing I have ever done, but sure is life changing. My beautiful Ruth and I went on vacation to Australia and decided to do skydiving together. We rented a car and bought a great map of South East Australia.

We planned to stay for 1 whole month and come back home. We were a couple for almost 5 years and it was her birthday a month later (just after we were to get back home to the UK).
I wanted to surprise her with THE question. I thought she might expect something to happen for our 5 years anniversary as a couple and for her birthday of course. I decided to double surprise her on that one.

Now before we left for our vacation I had spoken with her parents and told them my plans and got the GO. I'm not old fashioned but wanted to give the respect her father and mother should get from a future in-law.

Prior to our trip to the land of the Kangaroo, I stole one of Ruth's rings (to get the size for the ring) and went off to buy an engagement ring. I bought a very simple ring, made of white 18k gold and a 0.3 carat diamond.
We planned to jump off of a plane in cruising at 12,000ft on the first year of our relationship. We thought it would be cool to do it on that vacation. On the way to the field I told her I loved her and that she is the light in my life. She replied by saying she is really happy I'm the one she's on vacation with and a long kiss.

We took a short training course including safety procedures and instructions what we should do. Because it was our first time, we were each going to be attached to an instructor's belly with the harness. It was only the four of us on board and I had given the instructors my plan before boarding the plane.
We took off and began ascending to 12,000ft. Ruth and I held hands and then the pilot gave us the '3 minutes to jump' sign. We then got up and walked towards the exit door. I made sure that Ruth would be the second jumper and stand behind my instructor and myself. I was on my knees and reached to Ruth and in my hand a piece of paper I had prepared before the boarding of the plane. She took it and I shouted: "will you marry me? Read the note now", I turned to the door and we jumped out. The note read: "tell me when we get to the ground". She was in such surprise I fell the whole 12,000ft with a great scream and smile. The last thing I saw jumping off the plane was Ruth's open mouth and surprised face.

Back on the ground Ruth landed second, 80 ft from our landing place. We ran to each other, hugged and kissed.

She said yes…….
