Shannon M. Byrnes LMFT
Shannon Byrnes is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She specializes in working with individuals and couples. She maintains a thriving practice with two locations in Los Angeles and Old Town Pasadena, California.
After graduating with her Masters Degree in Psychology in 1999, Shannon spent several years earning valuable experience and knowledge in a variety of settings. Her early experiences include working with perpetrators and victims of domestic violence at Another Way, where she facilitated anger management groups and worked with individuals struggling with generational trauma and the cycle of violence.
Shannon is certified in Infant Mental Health from the Child Development Institute, where she worked extensively with children struggling with developmental delays. She worked intensely and closely with these children and their families, applying Floortime technique and behavior modification. Shannon also facilitated parent support groups to provide psycho-education and resources. In addition, she created the "Art from the Heart" program, using art to help children work through anxiety.
Shannon originally began her private practice work at La Vie Counseling Center in Santa Monica and Pasadena. Her experience with adolescents and individuals included self-esteem issues, anxiety and mood disorders, addiction, eating disorders and self-injury. Shannon is certified by the Prepare /Enrich program to administer couples inventories for pre-marital, co-habitating couples and marital couples across the lifespan.
Shannon currently practices out of her offices in Los Angeles and Pasadena where she specializes in relationship issues, working with adult individuals and couples, with an emphasis on: transition and adjustment, marital conflict, mindful parenting, self esteem, body image, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, grief, trauma and addiction. Shannon frequently provides trainings on Stress Reduction, Work Life Balance, Eating Disorders, Women's Issues, Parenting, Child Development and Chemical Dependency for corporations and throughout the community. Shannon provides consults for media outlets regarding her specialties. She recently contributed to the publication "Making Marriage a Success".
Shannon is the Trauma Response Coordinator for the Los Angeles California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. She receives ongoing training at the Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis and is a member of several professional organizations including the California Association for Marriage and Family Therapists for the State and the local Los Angeles Chapter, the International Association for Psychoanalytic Self Psychology, and the International Association for Eating Disorder Professionals.

Strategies teach organizational skills, time management skills and facilitate clients' increasing success and contentment in their lives.
Shannon Byrnes currently facilitates group psychotherapy in Parenting, Self Esteem/Empowerment, Anger Management and Eating Disorder Recovery Groups. She has extensive experience facilitating art groups for children suffering from Anxiety, parent support groups for children on the Autism Spectrum and Domestic Violence Prevention, and Anger Management groups.

Shannon has worked with couples for many years. She is certified by the Prepare /Enrich program to administer couples inventories for pre-marital, co-habitating couples, marital couples and marital couples with children from previous marriages (blended families), in different stages of the life cycle. She has worked closely with local churches in San Fernando Valley and West Los Angeles /Santa Monica to prepare couples for marriage.
In addition to her own private practice, Shannon is a part of a group of psychotherapists at La Vie Counseling Center where she works in both the Pasadena and Santa Monica locations with a variety of individual, couple and adolescent clients. Shannon is currently receiving advanced Psychoanalytic Training at the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis and continues to grow in colleague consultation at La Vie. Shannon is a board member of Los Angeles CAMFT for Trauma Response and is a member of CAMFT, AAMFT and IAPSP.
